Goals are your purposes which you define for your website content and in Google Analytics. By means of setting up a goal, you can optimize and improve your website performance. In a simple definition, we can say that the Goal option of Google Analytics is a way to understand how your defined purposes are performed.

When the activity of your website users results in the realization of your goals, there would be a conversion. Google Analytics measures the percentage of the users who have moved through your goals, by means of analyzing conversions rate. So you can set some goals for your website through Google Analytics, but how?

How to set a Goal in Google Analytics?

In order to set a goal, you can simply use the Admin Menu. You can find the goal in the View option of the Admin menu. Click on the View option to see Goal set Page. On this page, click on New Goal+ and create new goals for your website in Google Analytics, as much as you prefer. By clicking on New Goal+ there would be two options including Template and Custom.

The template offers some predefined sample goals which you can choose from among them. But if you want to create your own customized goals and add more details, the Custom option is a better choice. When your goal is set, then choose a name for it. Remember it should be relevant to its definition so that you can find the goals easily.

Now, you should clarify types of your goal. For this purpose you should choose one of the options below:

  • Event: as it is clear by its name, an Event Goal is an event that is completed. It can be a special offer for a purchase or it can be an off for website products.
  • Duration: this sets your goal as the duration a user remains on your website. If a user remains on your website more than this defined duration, your goal is accomplished.
  • Destination: this is for goals that define a specific page or content to be visited. Indeed a specific destination is set up as your goal.
  • Pages/Screen per session: this goal is set when you want your visitors to visit a specific number of pages in a specific time interval.
